Winter/Spring 2018:

Teddi Fuller
Hood River, Oregon

Teddi Fuller is an artist who has lived in Hood River whole year and couldn't be happier. She is a painter working mostly in oil paint and often experimenting with spray paint. Inspired by her time in the forest and lush trees of the Pacific Northwest, she has created a series of abstract trees with exaggerated shapes and colors. Teddi moved to the West Coast ten years ago after earning a BFA from Virginia Tech. When not painting technicolor landscapes, you can find her playing outside or making wine at Domaine Pouillon Winery.

Today Teddi works as a high school art teacher, sharing her love with her students.

Fall/Winter 2018:

Robyn Johnsen
Hood River, Oregon

What inspires your art?
It fascinates me, the way images can communicate or convey very differently (and often better) than words can. Most of the time, I like to let imagery just evolve out of moving paint around, but often the subjects become human or animal.

Background:
I studied art at The University of Minnesota, and have been living in Hood River for the past 17 years.

Today Robyn works as a high school art teacher, sharing her love with her students.

Summer 2018:

Ben Perri
Mosier, Oregon

Ben Perri is a budding landscape photographer with a large and organic following through social media. His photos have been featured on websites, like Oregon.gov, numerous landscape photography hubs on Instagram, and purchased by a large Florida group for display in their offices.

He was born in New York where he stayed throughout high school.  After a brief flirtation with higher education, Ben realized his calling was hardcore music. So, he went on the road with a band from Brooklyn, Shutdown, and began writing and publishing Trydent Fanzine about this music scene and the people in it. In fact, Ben was so immersed in hardcore that he was asked to join other New Yorkers as the vocalist / screamer for the band they were forming.  They went on to international fame and not much fortune but enjoyed  4 round-the-world trips performing.

Fast forward about 7 years and the break-up of the band, Ben moved from NYC to Seattle where he spent 6 years as a bartender at the world-renowned cocktail bar, ZigZag Café, under the tutelage of Murray Stenson, a legendary mixologist.  Ben proved to be a great student, as he was nominated for American Bartender of the Year in 2012.

Today, Ben makes his home in Mosier, OR… spending his days as a trail runner, outdoor adventurer, marathoner, ultra-runner, and sweeper.  He thrives in the mountains and captures the beauty of the great Northwest in his amazing photos.

Visit KickStand through October to view and purchase Ben's Photography!

Don't forget about our Artist "Meet and Greet" with Ben Thursday, August 16th from 4-6pm at KickStand!

Spring 2018:

Christina McKeown
Bend, Oregon

Christina McKeown is a homegrown artist from Bend,Oregon who loves to spend her time on the rivers and in the mountains. She's a jack of all trades and will happily fix anything with duct tape and elbow grease. She's only 100 pounds but don't let that fool ya. She has paddled professionally as a whitewater kayaker, enjoys kiteboarding and snowkiting in the front (and backcountry), and routinely disappears for multi-day rafting and backpacking trips with family. Of course, the paintbrushes come along on her adventures...

When it comes to art, she has been making an art mess since she was a kiddo. Her first truly disastrous mess was a pile of 200 melted crayons on the car seat (sorry mom and dad). Now she makes a mess with paints as an adult (minus the melted crayons). Her specialty is watercolor and ink because the tools fit well in her drybag and of course, she likes to play with water. When not painting or adventuring, she works as a kayaking instructor on the Deschutes River and is a Registered Nurse specializing in Wound Care.

Christina is currently showing her several galleries on Oregon, selling prints and originals on her ETSY shop, and collaborating with companies in the outdoor industry to create wearable art. Look for her big smile on the water and don't forget to wave!

If you are interested in purchasing an original, print, or commissioning a painting; contact her via email or check out her ETSY shop online!

Summer 2017:

Lucia Johnson
Portland, Oregon

I have been displaying my work in the public spaces of Portland, Astoria and Seattle for the past 12 years; and now Hood River, Oregon. My work has evolved in technique and construction over the years, but almost always includes the layering of glass or acrylic sheets and wood to make a somewhat 3 dimensional result. My children became inspiration and models for me, as well as the many overwhelming landscapes of both western and eastern Oregon. I grew up in South Carolina but I wanted to get the heck out of there from the time I was a child so here we are. My husband and I decided that we were done with that state and moved here with no jobs (brilliant!) in 2001 and we made it work.

I recently began painting on cradled wood panels with no glass or acrylic sheet layer, using the gauzy effects of spray paint combined with sharp edged, hand cut (by me) stencils to get a sense of depth. That process allows me to offer high quality originals for a lower price. The mounted prints I sell are all high resolution images I take of my finished originals. I use a computer program to raise the resolution even farther to both sharpen the images and make them fit for enlargement onto printed, stretched canvases if so desired. The $50 prints are all generated and assembled in my home studio, no out sourcing. I do sometimes tweak the image files with a filter but usually nothing too far from the original painting. For me, art is a wild west affair. My whims are enforced with almost no discernible rules save aiming for a high level craftsmanship and an affordable price on most pieces.

Since many people are unwilling to part with hard earned money without a bit of vetting, here is an abbreviated list of some of my most recent shows and awards from the past couple of years:

Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts Open Call Show 2016: Blue Ribbon and 2 of 3 paintings sold
Wallowa Valley Festival of the Arts (Joseph, Oregon) 2016: 3 paintings accepted.
Gresham Festival of the Arts 20

Tin Shed, Portland, Oregon multiple shows between 2008-2012
Barley and Vine , Seattle Washington: Solo Show March 2015
Crema, Portland, Oregon: Solo Show October 2015
Blue Scorcher Cafe, Astoria Oregon : Solo Show April and May 2016
Case Study Coffee, Portland, Oregon: Solo Show September 2016
Utopia Cafe, Portland, Oregon: ongoing Solo Show since 2011

Fall 2016:

Please welcome KickStand's very own Laura Borealisis! You may know Laura by the exceptionally delicious food she turns out from the kitchen, but you should better know her as a phenomenal artist!

Out of Trout Lake, Washington, Laura is interested conveying nature celebrated and the elemental roots of human expression through symbolism.

Drawing from the constant inspiration of a life lived in open wonder and thoughtful examination, Laura’s artwork is comprised of images gathered from every facet of her experience and woven into stylized narrative tapestries. Pages come to life with images from a singularly idealistic, dreamy realm of perspective- wrought with symbolism and nature celebrated. Introspective, yet broad; rejoicing in exploring the boundless possibilities of personal creation.

Laura's art is available for purchase at KickStand through October 31.

For more information, as well as to purchase other prints, find Laura on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/LauraBorealisis

Summer 2016:

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Christopher Bibby!

Christopher is a local artist out of Portland, Oregon, who with his art, invites people to share in the wonder of the moment, providing a window into the joy of life and an escape from our mundane distractions.

His art is a reflection of the warmth, and vibrancy of the gorge via watercolor and a signature patchwork linear style of art.

Love brought Bibby to Oregon, and falling in love with this place made me stay. There is so much beauty, in Portland and the surrounding countryside, that there seems to be an endless amount of positive emotions to communicate through my artwork.

All Bibby's art is available for purchase, as well as gift cards.

Spring 2016:

The lovely and talented, Margaret Newcomb is our Spring 2016 artist!

"I was born in 1961 on Whidbey Island, Washington to Commander Hames Adair Newcomb USN and his dear wife Gwendolyn Lee Mayhew Newcomb. I was the youngest of four and as a Navy family we moved around the US a bit (as well as Guam and a visit to Japan). I'm certain the "islandness" of Whidbey had a profound affect on my soul and the colors of the surrounding waters had an even greater affect on my art.

While I studied art at Ventura Community College (Calif.), I'm less inclined to follow the rules of any formal training, but rather follow the odd wanderings of my creative mind instead. I hope you enjoy the art and perhaps are inspired to create something expressive yourselves.

Margaret's art may be described as encaustic, and is available for purchase.

Summer 2015:

Christina McKeown of Bend, Oregon is our featured artist this summer. Inspiration for her artwork comes from the beautiful places she has experienced in the wilderness - most notably, on the rivers as a professional whitewater kayaker and kiteboarder.  An artist of many mediums, she has chosen to display her watercolors of the Pacific Northwest, though is known to paint in oil and acrylic as well as dabble in charcoal and pencil.

When not playing hard or painting, she works as a full time Certified Wound Ostomy RN in Bend, Oregon.

Come on by and check out Christina's beautiful original watercolors!

All art is available for purchase.

 Spring 2015:

Anna Laxague of
Basko Creative is our first featured artist.

Designed in the heart of the Pacific Northwest with inspiration from people, places, and woodland creatures, her artwork is created using salvaged wood, much of it rescued from home renovations and demolitions, then meticulously sanded, oiled and cured. You’ll find evidence of each piece’s history in its nail holes, dents, and cracks. From paintings of Mt. Hood to Parkdale cherry blossoms, there’s a story and history connected to the Pacific Northwest in every piece.

We are excited to have Anna and her designs color our walls!

Pieces available for purchase.
